This series consists of annotated draft publications and related correspondence on a wide variety of historical topics, including World War II campaigns, the Army Nurse Corps, the Women's Army Corps, the Army Medical Specialist Corps, race relations in the Army, military intelligence, logistics, transportation, counter insurgency operations, the role of federal military forces in domestic disturbances, the relationship between the U.S. military and the media during the Vietnam War, orthopedic surgery in the Vietnam War, and the U.S. Army's transition to an all volunteer force. The series was maintained by the Center of Military History.

The Women's Army Corps (WAC) was the women's branch of the US Army. It was created as an auxiliary unit, the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942, and converted to full status as the WAC in 1943. Its first director was Oveta Culp Hobby, the wife of a prominent politician and publisher in Houston, Texas. About 150,000 American women served in the WAAC and WAC during World War II.
